Rhoda and the Corn Cutter

Wm. L. had bought some land from a man named Dunagan.  After a couple of years Dunagan wanted the land back.  Wm. L. refused to sell.  Rhoda was home alone one Sunday when she saw a man cutting corn in a field near the house.  She got out the muzzle loader and fired at him.  He fell down.  While she is trying to decide what to do next two men came out of the woods and picked up the man and left.  They never heard who got shot or how bad.  They didn't have any more corn cut after that either.  Rhoda used to tell this story  with her stuttering and acting out the aiming and firing, it has been remembered and passed on for several generations.  It was learned at the 1995 family reunion that Quitman Parden had done some research and found out that Dunagan had lost a leg from the gunshot wound
