Excerpts from the Nanafalia Baptist
Church Minutes
Some names have been edited out to protect the
reputation of the families. The spelling is as was written, however
I cannot guarantee compete accuracy as the copies I have are hard to
read.

That love and union was restored between them.
The church agreed to drop all business and unite in
solemn prayer to almighty God and thanksgiving for his devind
intercession in the above case. We all knelt down and Bro. Stephen
Williams prayed – Brethen Alfred W. Johnson & James Nichols not
being present. The church agreed to wait on them until our next meeting.
2nd
Bro. Asa B. Parten presented a letter that he had received from
Elder Graham of So. Ca. Respecting a difficulty existing between Bro. Asa
B. Parten and some of the members of the Mount Pisqah Church in So.
Carolina. Bro. Parten wished the advice of this church on the contents of
said letter. The Church advised him to write an acknowledgement to that
Church and that Brothers Jacob B. Williams & Hezekiah Nettles to write
in behalf of this Church

Bro Name Removed was was reported to the church of being _____
Bro Name Removed not being present. He was laid under
censure of the Church and Brethren John Rogers & C. G. Capell was
appointed to notify him to attend our next meeting to answer to the guilt
of the crime.
Resolution
4th
Resolved that we will hold any member of this Church accountable and
guilty of sin and liable to be dealt with as a transgression of the
commandments of God who will sell or give ardent spirits to any person so
as to produce intoxication about them.
5th
Brethren Name Removed & Name Removed was reported to the
Church of having been guilty of selling spirited liquors to persons which
enabled them to get drunk and disgrace themselves thereby W. Nettles was
appointed to notify them to attend the next meeting to answer to the above
charge.
6th
Appointed Bro. John G. Williams to write the letters of this Church
to the next association.
Adjourned until Friday before the third Lords day in October next.

Called Bl Bro Tims case up Br J. B. Williams gave a satisfactory
account of Tim. It was unanimously agreed that Tim could be restored to
full fellowship of this Church
2nd
Took up Name Removed case. He formed some excuses for his breaking
the Holy Sabbath & promised not to be guilty of the like again. It was
mooved that Bro Name Removed be restored to fellowship of the Church,
which carried by a vote of the church

It was mooved that Bro Name Removed be laid under censure of the
Church being charged with playing cards, playing fiddle, & dancing and
the following Brethren appointed to wait on him J. B. Williams, W. Partin
& John Rogers

wheather Bro Name Removed have a letter or not. And the answer of the
church was not, and it was mooved & carried that Bro Name Removed be
laid under censure of the Church for the following charges profered
against him by A. W. Johnson, A. B. Partin & J. G. Williams which
charge him with fraud.

The Nanafalia Church at a regular church meeting too into
consideration the case of Bro William L. Partin believing that God had
called him to labour in his cause - We agree to place him at school that
he may receive an education to qualify him for more extensive usefulness
in the ministry. And do grant to Br. Partin permission to preach in the
limits of the church.
6th
We this day appoint Bro J. G. Williams to supply our sisters Davis
& Roberts for one month and report at our next meeting.

being a call meeting for the purpose electing Church officers. The

wait on Bro. Thomas Landrum for his long absence from Church Meeting and
request his more punctual attendances.

Appointed Brethren Asa R. Christian and John D. Rogers as deacon
help to assist in the collection of funds to answer the different purposes
of the Church.
8th
Brethren David Stewart, Will Compton, Joel Etheredge and Henry
Barrett came forward and stated that they had been absent from Church
meeting for some considerable time with there reasons in that soft
Christian feeling that gave them full satisfaction.
9th
Bro Samuel D. Hessin having been absent for some time form Church
meeting. Bro William Dopsey stated that Bro Hessin was liveing with him
and his employment necessarily prevented his attendance which was received
as satisfactory

Resolved that the Church call Br C. Breacher to the Pastoral care of
the Church for the present year which was done and Brethren Jonah Rogers,
J. B. Williams and R. D. Marshall be a committee to inform Br Breaker of
the call.
5th
Br Mark Parten presented a letter addressed to the Church and a
committee was appointed to examine the letter and report and after
retiring a few minutes returned and reported that the letter was from Br
Henry Parten requesting the Church erase his name from the record which
was postponed until next meeting and the following Brethren appointeda
committee — Jonah Rogers, J. B. Williams & Wiley Etheredge to know
the reasons why Br Parten wished his name eraced.
