Bunk's Old Place

A 1999 Reunion Visit by Ray Parden & Family

After Visiting the William Littleberry Cemetary we stopped at the road leading up to Bunk's old home site.  Junior (William) Parden told us, that the man who had purchased the land where Bunk's home was had made a deal, that us Parden's could all ways visit this site, so we climbed over the gate and walked up the road.  There is nothing left of Bunk's home, we scouted through the woods to try to locate the spot of the old house.  Dad, Gipsy Lee, showed us about where it was.  The only artifact that we found was an old porcelain kettle, which my sister Lee Ann kept (see photo).

We walked up the road a little further to Bunk's barn.  It's still there, however, the boards on the lower half have all been replaced as well as the tin roof, but the upper boards and some of the interior boards and beams look to be original.  The man that has it now still keeps a field of corn growing here.  It gives me a melancholy feeling to imagine all the things that went on here, and all the stories of our families that once lived in these hills and hollows.

Anyone have any stories that you want to share?  You can send them to me through email or enter them on our bulletin board and I'll add them here when I update the site.  Pictures of the old home site would be great here!
