William L bought land in Marengo Co. then married Sophia Roberts the next day. She died about 6 months later from some type fever.

William L joined Nanafalia Baptist Church in Marengo Co in 1836 and became an ordained minister in 1848. At this time we do not know when William L moved to Coffeeville. He and Sarah sold the land in Marengo Co. in 1846. He may have been preaching in Coffeeville area while training to be a minister.  - Si Parden

Below is a copy of the minutes from the meeting of the Nanafalia Baptist Church (1838) in which the Church decides to send W. L. to school to " qualify him for more extensive usefulness in the Ministry."

Rick Weber posted the following in the Partin Geneology Forum

"William was probably a brother or cousin of Asa B. PARTEN (abt.1790 SC-1848 AL). He was probably the William PARTEN who was a member of Nanafalia Baptist Church in Marengo County, AL from 1836 to 1843. That man was mentioned in minutes of 1838 that he decided to become a Baptist minister. On 2/14/1844 he bought a lot in Section 33, Township 13, Range 1 East. He married Sophia ROBERTS the next day. He was the minister who married Mark PARTIN and Mary McMILLAN. Your William is listed in Grove Hill and Coffeeville.
